COURSE OBJECTIVES:  In this course, you will focus on the spine and neck and surrounding structures with an overview of anatomy behind the movement.

  • You will learn anatomy terminology for body movement and major structures (bones, muscles, joints), including major muscle groups and their primary function. Knowing proper anatomical terms is important for effective communication with healthcare professionals and for guiding your students in their asana practice.
  • We will cover common dysfunctional patterns and injuries of the spine. You will learn the importance of body alignment and how to assess your students during movement and in stillness. You will learn the do’s and don’ts in common yoga postures and develop confidence in prescribing yoga postures to your client’s specific needs.
  • You will learn how to detect dysfunctional patterns caused by common repetitive activities (e.g. texting, sitting behind a computer, standing all day, etc). You will learn the subtle differences between strength versus stability, flexibility versus contractability, and weak versus tight muscles.
  • The training will have visual aids to make learning easier. Two of the four hours are contact hours consisting of practice and interactive group exercise to make learning fun and informative.
