Anatomy Behind the Movement: Soulders & Arms


COURSE OBJECTIVES: We will delve deeply into the structures (bones, muscles, joints) of the shoulders and arms.

  • We will spend time learning about the anatomy of the shoulder, elbow, wrist to correctly and safely do chaturangas.
  • You will learn how to position the arm properly and know the mechanics of the shoulders.
  • You will learn what muscles are engaged or should be engaged during postures affecting the upper body such as downward facing dog, wheel, handstands and cow-face to name a few. 
  • You will gain an anatomical understanding of shoulder injuries and conditions. 
  • You will learn various ways to teach yoga using straps and blocks for upper body from beginner to advance postures.
  • This course is interactive and you will be practicing while you learn so that you can experience the anatomy behind the movement.  You will also be given instruction on verbal cues and hands-on assisting as a teacher and then practicing what you’ve learned to reinforce and test out your knowledge.
